Kansas Hospital Settles FCA Case Involving EHR Technology

Coffey Health System of Burlington, Kansas, agreed to pay $250,000 to settle a qui tam suit alleging that it falsely attested to complying with security risk analysis requirements under the HHS “meaningful use” program in 2012 and 2013. Under the meaningful use program, hospitals receive incentives for adopting and demonstrating their use of EHR technology that satisfies certain criteria, including measures for analyzing and addressing security risks.
