The New York Times reported that Senator Amy Klobuchar has released a $100 billion plan to combat drug and alcohol addiction and improve mental health care as part of her Presidential campaign. Klobuchar’s plan has three parts: Prevention, Treatment and Ongoing Recovery with a focus on treatment instead of incarceration for nonviolent drug offenders and a national awareness campaign to combat stigma. Klobuchar told the Times, “The one thing I hear over and over again across the country is people’s stories of battling with mental health and addiction. People need help, but they just can’t get it.”
