Physician Burnout May Be Caused By Health Information Technology

In a recent study, seven out ten physicians reported stress related to health information technology (HIT). The study also showed physicians who were not allotted enough time to fill out electronic health records (EHR) were 2.8 times more likely to suffer symptoms of burnout compared to those with more accommodating schedules. Although HIT related stress is specialty oriented, all healthcare organizations can use this study as a guide to help prevent burnout among their physicians and staff.
