UnitedHealth Group reported in a November 2024 update that its Change Healthcare clearinghouse services are now fully restored following the cyberattack in February 2024 that compromised the protected health information of 100 million individuals.

UnitedHealth Group reported that it continues the repayment phase of the Temporary Funding Assistance Program, which it launched in March 2024 to assist providers struggling financially as a result of the prolonged outage of Change Healthcare’s systems. Recipients of the program’s loans have already repaid $3.2B as of October 15, 2024.

Since July 29, 2024, Change Healthcare has been alerting the 100 million individuals (as reported on the HHS breach portal) affected by the data breach by mailing written notices on a rolling basis.

OCR continues to investigate Change Healthcare to determine Change Healthcare and United Healthcare’s compliance with HIPAA rules prior to the cyberattack.
