The State of Texas filed its third lawsuit against a physician for allegedly prescribing hormones to minors “for the purposes of transitioning their biological sex or affirming their belief that their gender identity or sex is inconsistent with their biological sex,” according to the complaint. The Texas law prohibiting these services, Tex. Health & Safety Code § 161.702, was enacted in September 2023, but the complaint alleges that the physician has continued to prescribe hormones to 15 patients in violation of the law as recently as October 2024. According to other news sources, Dr. Cooper is the third physician sued by the state under this law and is the second provider at the same medical center.
