On October 8, 2024, the CMS Innovation Center released a preliminary list of generic prescription drugs that would be available to Medicare Part D enrollees at a fixed cost of no more than $2 per month. The list includes prescription drugs used to manage a wide range of conditions, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and depression. The proposed list was developed in accordance with President Biden’s Executive Order 14087, “Lowering Prescription Drug Costs for Americans,” and is designed to test whether a simplified approach to cost-sharing can improve medication adherence and health outcomes. More information can be found here, including details on the $2 drug list and a link to the CMS Request for Information inviting public comment on the proposal. Comments are due to CMS no later than December 9, 2024.
