What Is Health Law? HIPAA

 The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, commonly known as HIPAA, is a cornerstone of modern federal healthcare privacy and security law and an understanding of its privacy and security requirements is fundamental to health care providers and the attorneys that represent them.  The next installment of the Health Law Section’s Law Student Podcast Series will examine the basics of what HIPAA requires, how health law attorneys encounter it in practice and what types of issues your clients might face.  The presenters will offer an introductory overview of the key provisions of the law, as well as recent developments stemming from the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule.  The Podcast will also include a discussion of Business Associate Agreements, including what they are, what they must include, when they are necessary and how to assist clients in negotiating these agreements.

An essential for aspiring health lawyers, the Health Law Section is pleased to offer a free webinar, “What Is Health Law?” an introduction to two key laws used in everyday practice from a practical perspective.

Our panelists will discuss health law fundamentals, including the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, that will help provide law students with practical knowledge about what a practice in health law really means as they embark on a career in health law.
