American small- and mid-sized law firms are increasingly hearing from clients regarding Chinese legal issues. Foreign legal work in China, a market that was exclusively the domain of large Chinese firms and the Baker McKenzies of the world only two decades ago, is becoming an important aspect of non-Chinese (“foreign”) legal practice. Not only does China remain a strong manufacturing destination, but its expanding middle-class and money-laden elite are tantalizing consumers for American companies.
