Readers may be surprised to learn that I, the Social Media Strategist, have historically been very slow to adopt social media. I didn’t join Facebook until 2012, Twitter in 2015, and, perhaps most surprisingly, Myspace in 2008, right in time for it to become obsolete. I’ve seen more Vines since the app was shut down than I did during its entire life. The point is, in the past I was often too hesitant when it came to adopting new social media. I would see a new app and think to myself, “this is silly, no one serious will ever use this.” By the time I recognized my mistake, I was years behind in building a valuable presence on whatever platform. Or in the case of Myspace and Vine, I was too late.
