The Uniform Deployed Parents Custody and Visitation Act: Lessening the Burden of Deployment for Our Military Families

In 2017 more than 1.3 million men and women served on active duty in the U.S. military. Of these servicemembers, the Department of Defense (DoD) stationed more than 450,000 overseas (defense.gov/about). Many overseas military assignments do not permit family members to accompany servicemembers on their postings. These unaccompanied assignments are sometimes dangerous. Despite this, thousands of men and women continue to serve in these important roles to protect our country.
