The Military Justice Act of 2016 (MJA16) went into effect on January 1, 2019, and implemented the most comprehensive changes to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) since the UCMJ was first implemented in 1952. After two years of intense planning and preparation, the uniformed services are now practicing under the new MJA16 rules. It is too soon to fully assess the effects of the changes, but this article will highlight a few of the mechanisms Congress and the president created to enhance the rights of victims.
