On March 7, 1876, one of the foundational inventions for our modern business world was patented. On that date Alexander Graham Bell filed US Patent No 174465, for an “apparatus for transmitting vocal or other sounds telegraphically.” Three days later on March 10, 1876, Bell made the first call to his assistant, Thomas Watson. The first words famously uttered: “Mr. Watson—come here—I want to see you.”
