I am regularly asked about my inspiration for a particular column. I am blessed to have wide discretion in my topics, so long as they are helpful for our magazine’s audience: members of the ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division. The topics I’ve written on have dealt with everything from managing yourself and your team to ethics and the basics of what we do as lawyers. A lot of what I write about is what we do as attorneys, but it’s also important to remember who we are as attorneys and the public trust bestowed upon us. We are not just businesspeople offering a service widget. We are professionals of the highest and noblest calling. I thus take this time to remind us that we must be, not just do.
