It has been nearly three decades since I got my law degree, and over two decades since I became a legal technology consultant. My primary focus has been on PC-based productivity tools for lawyers—and therein lies my bias. To counter this bias, I sent out my college-age son, Samuel, an avid cell phone user, to find what productivity tools exist on the Android and Apple iOS platforms. The result is a discussion between Sam and me over the merits of software applications, or “apps,” that can be run on cell phones and tablets. We have grouped the apps by area of usage, such as e-mail management, document management, practice management, legal research, document markup, and other utilities.
