Multiple studies over the past 25 years reveal a significant hazard for those who practice law. Statistics show that lawyers are vulnerable to depression, substance abuse, and suicide in proportions well beyond other occupations. Lawyer depression is a complex issue with multiple contributing factors. This column examines one major piece of the puzzle that can and does affect many solo and small practice attorneys: compassion fatigue.
