We don’t have flying cars or jetpacks yet, but the Internet has more than delivered on the promise of a more accessible future. The ever-emerging stream of new technologies that connect people and communities also puts them at greater risk. In the attorney’s role as counselor, we need to help clients understand these risks—and make sure we avoid them ourselves. In fact it is our duty to keep abreast of the “benefits and risks associated with relevant technology,” according to Comment 8 to Rule 1.1 of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
