Partnering with Mexico to Fight Transnational Crime

This article focuses on the lessons to be learned from two human trafficking cases successfully investigated and prosecuted both in the United States and in Mexico.

In U.S. courts two joint investigations led to convictions in United States v. Israel Cortes-Morales, et al., 1:10-mj-03695-WCT (S.D.Fl. 2011), and United States v. Rugerio, et al., 1:08-cr-00317-CC-LTW (N.D. Ga. 2008). In Mexico these joint investigations led to the first human-trafficking convictions by the Subprocuraduría Especializada en Investigación de Delincuencia Organizada (SEIDO, the Attorney General’s Office of the Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime).
