Prostitution and HIV: What You Can’t Say Might Hurt You

Laws that disregard the reality of people’s lives can become a danger to those lives. Sex workers understand this all too well. Legal decisions about sex work are too often made on the basis of abstract judgments and not on an objective analysis of their impact. To wit, public health legislation intended to halt HIV infection has been undermined by the U.S. government’s desire to stifle debate about prostitution.
