Law Students

The Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division (GPSLD) law student page provides articles and information on topics such as loan repayment and forgiveness, legal careers in the public sector, and surviving law school.

GPSLD membership is free for ABA law student members! Enroll online today. You can also call the ABA Service Center at 1-800-285-2221 to join. (Law student members receive e-publications, so please be sure to include your e-mail address when you join.)

You must be a member of the ABA to join GPSLD, but law student membership in the ABA is now FREE!

GPSLD Law Student E-Mail Discussion
Student members of the GPSLD have full access to our Law Student E-mail Discussion List. We created this forum to give law student members a place to ask and answer questions, and to share advice and opportunities with other law students.

Looking for a legal job with the federal government? Check out the
2017-2018 Federal Legal Employment Opportunities Guide. This handy resource was produced by the National Association for Law Placement and the Partnership for Public Service. It's a great resource for federal jobseekers, and it's free!

PSJD (Public Service Jobs Directory) helps law students and lawyers connect with public interest opportunities. As a collaborative project among American and Canadian law schools, PSJD is a free resource for law students and alumni of subscriber schools. It also offers an online library of educational and career-building resources for those interested in pursuing a career in public service.

A Note from GPSLD's Law Student Division Liaison:

Thank you for stopping by the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division (GPSLD) website! My name is Raven Moore and I am a 2L at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. I am honored to serve as the 2018-2019 Law Student Liaison to the GPSLD and I hope to use my advocacy, local government, and public interest experience to enrich this division and spread awareness about the resources that GPSLD provides to its members.

My mission is to help students interested in public sector and/or government work map a path to their success. I want to ensure that students have an opportunity to connect with attorneys that work in their desired field, have readily available information about the careers that fall under the government and public sector umbrella.

The GPSLD aims to provide students interested in public service with opportunities to network, win scholarships, find summer internships, and write publications for the American Bar Association. My mission as Student Liaison will be to empower law students seeking to pursue careers in the government or public sector.

If you are interested in government or public sector work, I encourage you to join and become an active member of GPSLD. As a member of GPSLD, you will have access to all of its membership resources, including publications, a mentorship program, an email discussion list, and the Public Lawyer Career Center. Please check the website regularly for details and be sure to join us on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to stay connected to GPSLD news.
