A Note from GPSLD's Law Student Division Liaison

Thank you for stopping by the Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division (GPSLD) website! My name is Jaime Villarreal, Jr. and I am a 3L at Texas A&M University School of Law. I am excited to serve as the Law Student Liaison to the GPSLD for the 2020-2021 school year. With my experience working in local, state, and federal government, I hope to be a resource for law students who are interested in learning more about government or public interest work. My goal this year is to connect law students with the opportunities and resources needed to pursue their interests in this legal field.

Compassion in a Time of Crisis

Do we need a bar exam? Since the outbreak of COVID-19, it’s a sure thing that every law student in the country now knows what “diploma privilege” is even if they never heard of it before. As if this year hasn’t been hard enough, 2020 graduates and bar exam retakers are now also dealing with the uncertainty of whether, when, and how they will take the bar exam in 2020, starting jobs, and getting that first paycheck in months, maybe even years for some.

Podcasts: Compelling Conversations with Colleagues!

"Compelling Conversations with Colleagues" is a series of podcast interviews with a wide variety of public sector lawyers. Hear from an assistant city attorney, a public defender, a federal agency lawyer, a JAG lawyer and more about their day-to-day and the pathways that lead them to their positions.
