Message from GPSLD Chair, Judge Ira Sandron

I am most pleased to report that at the ABA Midyear Meeting in Phoenix, the House of Delegates passed GPSLD’s resolution regarding the safety and security of government employees.  The resolution, cosponsored by many other ABA entities, urges adoption of legislation to prohibit and protect the disclosure of personally identifiable information (PII) of active or former government officials and employees, and the immediate family members with whom they share a residence, unless the individual has signed a consent to disclosure of such information.  The information includes but is not necessarily limited to, home addresses or other personal contact or identifying information, disclosure of which could potentially subject active or former government employees and/or their families to serious physical harm.  This is a vitally important topic, and we thank all those who worked so diligently to get this resolution passed.

The critical role of government lawyers, including judges and other government employees, in today’s society can hardly be overstated.  They work hard daily in transacting government business that impacts virtually every area of people’s lives, while striving to uphold the rule of law and the equal administration of justice for all.  In short, government lawyers and judges provide an essential cornerstone of the American Constitutional system and contribute to making our communities safer, our economy stronger, and the future brighter for our nation and the world.

Please be assured that GPSLD fully stands by and supports government lawyers and will continue to advocate for their interests and the broader interests of the American public that they so ably serve.
