The ABA Family Law Section Charitable Fund Billable Hour Campaign

This year we are kicking off a new “Hourly Billing Rate Fundraising Drive” campaign to raise money for the ABA Family Law Section Charitable Fund. We are asking each and every Section Member to donate the monetary equivalent of one (1) billable hour of your time to support the FLS Charitable Fund. If you do not charge hourly for your time, you can still make a donation in any dollar amount.

Committee Brown Bags

All Committee Brown Bags will take place from 1:00-2:00pm ET. There is no fee to participate in Section brown bags; however, you must register to receive the meeting information. Click on the brown bag title to read the full description and to register. Please note: The content of these programs does not meet requirements for continuing legal education (CLE) accreditation. You will not receive CLE credit for attending.

Trial Practice & Techniques Series (October 4, 2021)
"Haus of Improv: Lawyer's Improv Lecture and Demonstration" 
Our Trial Practice & Techniques Committee hosts monthly brown bags to discuss hot topics and issues in trial practice.

Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (October 21, 2021)
"Mediating Difficult and Complex Cases Successfully" 
This Brown Bag will address what you need as a practitioner to be prepared to mediate a complex domestic matter. Our speaker will address the need for attorneys to come to the mediation table well prepared and ready to discuss outstanding financial and custodial issues, the need to include experts in these areas, whenever possible, to ensure the mediation can proceed without roadblocks. We will additionally discuss how attorneys and mediators can work together to handle difficult client personalities and emotional issues which would otherwise serve as impediments to a successful mediation outcome.


Domestic Violence Committee (October 28, 2021)
"The Domestic Violence Toolkit: Leveraging Medical Evidence and What Family Law Attorneys Need to Know about Strangulation" 
This Brown Bag will address the cycle of domestic violence with specific discussion of strangulation and sexual assault. Our speakers, Melissa Gilpin, Nilaja Ford, and Katina Miner, will address utilizing medical evidence, common pitfalls, preparing for restraining order hearings and evidence based DV prosecution.
