As we enter 2025 and the beginning of a new presidential administration, environmental and energy law professionals face a rapidly changing landscape that demands adaptation, innovation, collaboration, and strategic foresight. With significant regulatory shifts, emerging challenges, and evolving policies and technologies, practitioners are tasked with navigating a legal terrain that is more complex than ever. At this moment of change and uncertainty, the 54th Spring Conference on Environmental Law offers an essential platform to engage, learn, and prepare for what the future has in store.

And what better place for this critical discussion than the birthplace of our nation and the cradle of democracy? I hope you will join SEER and our distinguished lineup of speakers in Philadelphia to tackle some of the most salient issues of the day. Top practitioners will impart practical lessons on navigating potentially responsible party (PRP) groups, negotiating contracts in the PFAS era, ethical considerations for working with environmental consultants, and the intricacies of Clean Water Act section 404 permitting. Leading minds will shed light on what brought us to the present moment in discussions covering Justice Alito’s reshaping of environmental jurisprudence; the role of federal-interstate compacts; and the evolution of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations. Lawyers on the front lines will share insights on hot topics such as natural resource damage litigation, the increasing demand for electricity, the federal air toxics program, environmental criminal enforcement, and the legal challenges (and opportunities) presented by a changing climate. Law students and young lawyers are invited to a career-oriented panel providing practical advice on navigating career transitions.

Beyond the exceptional CLE panels, the Spring Conference will foster new connections and strengthen existing ones through an array of networking opportunities and engaging social events. The conference starts on Wednesday with the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB)-in-action lunch, a public service project, a reception for first-time attendees, and a Beginnings and Belongings reception to kick off the Conference. On Thursday and Friday, attendees can look forward to networking breaks, a chair yoga session to get the blood flowing, evening dine arounds at local restaurants, walking tours of Philadelphia, a Local Flair reception, and of course, the ever-popular SEER Run Club.

This is the first time that Philadelphia has hosted a SEER Conference, and it is sure to be one for the books. I hope you will join us in the City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection to learn, build connections, and of course, have some fun. Register today!
