31st Fall Conference in Washington, D.C.

Join leading professionals from the public and private sectors for timely updates on the latest opportunities and challenges facing the fields of environmental, energy, and resources law at the 31st Fall Conference. The Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources (SEER) will gather at the Grand Hyatt Washington, from October 11–13, 2023, for informed discussion, networking, and inspiration in the nation’s capital.

Given the widespread presence of our members both domestically and internationally, the prospect of meeting in-person holds significant value in strengthening the bonds that unite us within the SEER community. We look forward to the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to first-time conference participants, meet with new members, and reconnect with familiar faces.

The conference panels boast a lineup of distinguished speakers who will offer their expertise on a diverse range of topics, including strategies for engaging with federal agencies to advocate for environmental and energy policy, navigating recent Supreme Court decisions that have impacts for the practice, examining diverse generation sources to achieve net-zero goals, and implementing innovative programs for brownfield redevelopment in marginalized communities. Panelists also will discuss the full life cycle of renewable energy projects, alongside the emerging complexities tied to the evolving energy transition. From equitable access to safe drinking water to the impacts of “forever chemicals” on the food system, these conversations promise to provide valuable insights and fodder for thoughtful engagement. The conference was organized around environmental justice and tribal issues as key principles; those important perspectives and considerations are woven throughout the panels as common themes rather than separate discussion topics.

Beyond the exceptional CLE panels, the 31st Fall Conference promotes connections among members through an array of networking opportunities and engaging social events. The conference commences on Wednesday with an afternoon dedicated to public service followed by an evening reception. The Beginnings and Belonging reception provides a great opportunity to learn more about the Section’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) work.

Throughout the duration of the conference, participants can look forward to networking opportunities to meet and catch up with fellow attendees. Additionally, the conference extends an invitation to partake in an assortment of activities, including evening dine-arounds at local restaurants within the heart of D.C., as well as the ever-popular SEER Run Club.
