The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many vulnerabilities in American society. While we focus on the pandemic in the spring of 2020, the climate crisis continues, without any federal action in sight. Clear air resulting from COVID-19 shutdowns, unseen in certain cities for decades, illustrates the environmental impact of business as usual. The federal government, however, took the opportunity created by universal distraction from the crisis to weaken enforcement of environmental laws.
