As I write this, news has broken that the deadliest forest fires in California’s history have finally been contained. I wish I could say that this news has not become routine, but it has. Each year, forests are more omnipresent in the news as they burn with increasing ferocity and destruction and at times of the year where such blazes were previously unknown. Some fire fighters in the West are saying that there is no longer such thing as a forest fire “season” because forest fires are now a year-round phenomenon.
