Since I was young, aquatic creatures, wildlife, and plants were my passion. But could I, born and raised outside of the United States, ever expect that practicing environmental law would be an option for me? When I started my legal career in Ukraine, the answer was: “Of course not.” Now, I am an environmental attorney in Washington, D.C. The path I traveled to get here has been full of curves, mostly due to my foreign, non-traditional background, but many candidates—with similar or different credentials—also face difficulties pursuing their interest in this area.
