Maleaha Brown is an Associate Professor at Southwestern Law School, where she teaches family law and legal analysis, writing, and skills. Prior to joining Southwestern, Professor Brown was a family law attorney at the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and Texas RioGrande Legal Aid. In these roles, Professor Brown represented low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in complex family law litigation to provide protection in the aftermath of abuse and against further victimization in the court system.
Professor Brown is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Family Law. Currently, she serves on the Editorial Board for the Section’s scholarly journal, Family Law Quarterly. Professor Brown was previously a Section Fellow and Co-Chair of the Domestic Violence Committee, and she has written articles for the Section’s Family Advocate and Family Law Quarterly. Professor Brown is also a past awardee in the Section’s Howard C. Schwab Writing Contest and the 2021 recipient of the Section’s Allen Gary Palmer Excellence in Service and Commitment Award.
Professor Brown received her J.D. from Howard University School of Law and her B.A. from Baylor University. She is licensed to practice law in Texas.
