Karlesha V. Hewitt served Suffolk County New York as an Assistant District Attorney for four years, two of which she spent prosecuting domestic violence cases. Specifically, she prosecuted cases involving cohabitant, child, and intimate partner abuse.
While attending Northeastern University School of Law, Karlesha was both a student of and Teaching Assistant for the Domestic Violence Clinic. There, she helped survivors of domestic violence obtain ex-parte orders of protection and connected them with housing, and other valuable resources.
She interned at Lawyers for Children, assisting in the representation of the best interest of child victims of abuse in custody proceedings. Karlesha also interned at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the Hartford Public Defenders Office, and the Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division, Special Litigation Section.
Currently, Karlesha is an Associate Attorney at a personal injury firm in New York, representing clients who sustain physical and/or psychological injury as a result of negligence by another party, municipality, or entity.
Karlesha has been a member of the American Bar Association since 2016 and joined Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence in 2019.
