Aziza is a Senior Staff Attorney within the Children and Families Practice Group at Legal Aid Chicago.  Since Aziza began working at Legal Aid Chicago in August of 2017, she has exclusively litigated cases pertaining to orders of protections and domestic relations. All of Aziza’s clients are survivors of domestic and sexual violence. As a native Chicagoan, Aziza possesses a very strong understanding of the myriad of issues impacting Chicago’s low-income, vulnerable populations and minority communities, including immigrants and refugees from the Middle East and South Asia.

Along with performing her duties as a Staff Attorney, Aziza also supervises law student interns and participates in various agency committees, including the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee, Domestic Violence Task Force, and Veteran’s Affairs Task. Aziza routinely provides trainings and presentations on domestic violence law and family law to locally based domestic violence advocacy agencies.

Aziza also provides mentorship to law students and undergraduates through the Chicago Bar Association, USF First Generation Mentorship program, and University of Chicago’s Chicago Women’s Alliance. Recently, she has been appointed to DePaul University College of Law’s Schiller DuCanto & Fleck Family Law Center Advisory Board (Fall 2023).

Aziza received her Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University College of Law in 2014. Throughout law school, Aziza was a Public Interest Honor’s Scholar and an active member of the Center for Public Interest Law. Aziza actively engaged with DePaul University’s International Human Rights Institute, where she served as a Fellow.  Her fellowship entailed research and organizing panels and a symposium on the intersectionality of international law and economics. Aziza interned with DePaul University’s Asylum and Immigration Clinic in 2012 and 2013. Aziza’s internship entailed processing U-Visa applications from start to finish for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors. In addition to her many internships and externships with public interest legal aid agencies, Aziza also dedicated over 200 hours volunteering with various legal aid agencies and clinics for which she was awarded the Benjamin Hooks Distinguished Public Service Award.

The ABA recently selected Aziza as an ABA Family Law Fellow for 2022-2024.
