The American Bar Association Commission on Domestic and Sexual Violence is excited to host the Legal Resource Center on Violence Against Women (LRC)'s interactive legal training on interstate custody issues for LAV grantees and others.

The training is designed for attorneys who may be new to this area of law.  Faculty will provide participants with an overview of the various federal and state laws that govern interstate custody cases and an opportunity to practice making legal arguments to protect survivors.  The program will cover how to interview survivors who are contemplating relocation and how to provide legal advice on the economic, safety and legal issues involved when survivors cross state lines with their children.  Participants will learn about the nuts and bolts of the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) and understand how parental kidnapping laws may be involved.  The program will provide a unique opportunity to compare practices with attorneys from across the country regarding this complex area of law.
