On August 12, 2021, the Commission on Women in the Profession (CWP) co-sponsored “GOOD Guys and Men in the Mix: Young Lawyers Edition” with the National Conference of Women’s Bar Associations and the ABA Young Lawyers Division. Presenters, panelists, and attendees engaged in a lively discussion about how the next generation of male lawyers can step up their allyship for women lawyers and other diverse members of the profession. Findings from the Commission’s Men in the Mix study were incorporated into the program as speakers explored how young lawyers can invite and engage those missing from the conversation. Sheryl Axelrod, president, The Axelrod Firm, PC, gave an initial presentation about the business and human rewards of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The panel was moderated by Choi Portis, manager, City of Detroit Department of Appeals and Hearings, and chair, ABA Young Lawyers Division. Speakers were Jerome Crawford, director of Legal Operations and Social Equity, Pleasantrees; Ray Panneton, managing partner, Ted Smith Law Group, PLLC; Hon. Peter M. Reyes Jr., judge, Minnesota Court of Appeals, and CWP commissioner (also CWP Men in the Mix Committee co-chair); and Aaron Sohaski, director of contracting and compliance, Henry Ford Health System.
