Martha Fay (“Marty”) Africa, a founder and partner of Major, Lindsey & Africa, a global legal services firm, died on January 21. She became a highly influential member of the legal community, both in the San Francisco Bay Area through the Bar Association of San Francisco and nationally through the American Bar Association. In 1990, Africa helped found ABA Women Rainmakers with the express purpose of promoting advancement of women in the profession. She also served as the Law Practice Division’s liaison to the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession and that division’s liaison to the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.
