Dale Minami is the recipient of the 2019 ABA Medal, the highest honor in the American Bar Association. He was the first Asian American to receive the honor in its 90-year history. Minami led the legal team which reopened Korematsu v. United States, resulting in the erasure of Fred Korematsu’s criminal conviction for defying the internment of Japanese Americans. Minami has spent his career fighting for the rights of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. He founded the Asian Law Caucus, which is one of the first public interest law firms created for low-income Asian Pacific Americans.
