Pathways Grant Management Obligations: Compensation and Support for Faculty

In exchange for the Designing Faculty Member’s performance under this MOU, the co-PIs and the Pathways Grant management structure will provide this support to the Designing Faculty Member:

  • $12,000 in compensation, paid through IU systems and subject to all withholdings, for course creation, allocated as described below and subject to performance described below;
  • $12,000 in compensation as described in prior bullet for course pilot presentation;
  • Normal and appropriate creative and collegial support that is characteristic of any pedagogical endeavor at McKinney;
  • Assignment of a course designer provided by eDS as course design and teaching support lasting throughout the development and teaching process.’

Designing Faculty Member Obligations

By signing this MOU and accepting the compensation and support as described above, the Designing Faculty Member agrees to the following parameters for course development under the Pathways Grant.

  • Designing Faculty Member will work with eDS designer throughout the course development and teaching process and use the eDS designer’s support in good faith.
  • Designing Faculty Member will produce and teach the course with an eye to the overall outcomes of the Pathways Grant project, including data gathering and research, mentorship, and student recruitment.
  • Designing Faculty Member is willing to accept a greater degree of outside and Co-PI involvement in course design and teaching work than is usual for law school teaching, consistent with the overall project outcomes.
  • Designing Faculty Member will serve as a member of the faculty mentorship cohort for the grant, in conjunction with other members of the McKinney School of Law faculty.
  • Designing Faculty Member will participate in publicity related to the Pathways Grant.
  • Designing Faculty Member will make an effort, if asked, to attend and present on the course and the Designing Faculty Member’s work under the grant at one or more professional programs.
  • Designing Faculty Member will be a consult for future McKinney or IUPUI instructors teaching the course using the materials produced (so long as Designing Faculty Member remains on the McKinney faculty).
  • Designing Faculty Member accepts that compensation for work under the Pathways Grant will be forthcoming on a demonstration that the work required for each period payment is accomplished to the satisfaction of both co-PIs (or grant managers if appointed) and the granting agency.
  • Compensation for design to be paid in the following manner:   
    • $4000 at beginning of design process;
    • $4000 at end of initial course design (full course “draft” completed)
    •  $4000 after abbreviated QM review, changes and improvements, course finalized.
  • Compensation for teaching to be paid in the following manner:
    • $4000 at beginning of semester;
    • $4000 at end of semester;
    • $4000 at end of grading and data reporting.

Intellectual Property

Consistent with the obligations imposed by the Pathways Grant and the Indiana University Intellectual Property policies, intellectual property created under this Grant will be allocated as follows:

  • Designing Faculty Member will own the copyright to any course materials created;
  • Indiana University will have a permanent non-exclusive license to use the intellectual property, including the likeness of the Designing Faculty Member and videos featuring the Designing Faculty Member;
  • Pathways Grant management and Indiana University will assign to the granting agency a permanent non-exclusive license to use the intellectual property, including the likeness of the Designing Faculty Member and videos featuring the Designing Faculty Member.
