ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarship Fund

Award
The fund grants 20 incoming diverse law students with $15,000 of financial assistance over the course of their three years in law school.

Qualifications
In addition to whether the applicant is a member of a racial and/or ethnic minority that has been underrepresented in the legal profession, the applicant’s financial need; personal, family and educational background; personal statement; and participation in community service activities will be considered in selecting the recipients of the ABA Legal Opportunity Scholarships.

AAHD Frederick J. Krause Scholarship on Health And Disability

Award
Funds are limited to under $1,000. The AAHD Board of Directors Scholarship Committee will evaluate each of the applicants and make a decision in December of each calendar year.

Qualifications

  • Applicant must have a disability
  • Applicant must be enrolled  FULL TIME as an undergraduate student (junior standing and above) or enrolled PART TIME or FULL TIME in a graduate school
  • Preference is given to students majoring in a field related to disability and health (see Scholarship  Program Criteria above)
  • Applicant must be a US citizen or legal resident living in the US and enrolled in an accredited United States university

Arent Fox Annual Diversity Scholarship Program

Award
$15,000 scholarship and summer associate program.

 

Qualifications
First-year law students at ABA-accredited law schools; excellent verbal and communication skills; leadership; prior work experience preferred; member of underrepresented population in the legal profession; and authorized to work in U.S. 

Deadline
The Firm will accept applications from December 1, 2015 through January 20, 2016

Auger & Auger Disabled Scholar Award

Award
$1,000

Qualifications
Applicants must be either a current graduating high school senior with acceptance to an accredited school or an undergraduate student at an accredited institution within the United States. Applicants must have a minimum 2.8 GPA. Applicants must submit an unofficial copy of their transcript.

Fall Semester- July 31st
Spring Semester- November 30th

Bell Law Group Wheelchair Disability Scholarship

Award
$1,000 to be used for higher education tuition and expenses at any law school in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at or accepted to a U.S. law school.
  • Uses a wheelchair for mobility all of the time.

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Annual Diversity Scholarship

Description
Two scholarships:  one up to $10,000 will be awarded to a 2L student and one up to $5,000 will be awarded to a 1L student. Recipients will be required to clerk in one of BABC’s eight offices for at least six weeks of the summer after the scholarship is awarded.

Qualifications
Law students attending ABA accredited law schools in the United States.

Cooley Goodward Kronish Diversity Fellowship Program

Award
$15000 and an invitation to join Cooley’s Summer Associate Program

Qualifications
Personal diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, physical disability and/or sexual orientation. Enrolled full-time in an ABA accredited law school and in the 1L year at time of application. Sincere interest in joining the Firm’s Summer Associate Program following the applicant’s 2L year. Not a recipient of a similar diversity award from another law firm for the same time period.

Davis Wright Tremaine 1L Diversity Scholarship

Description
Three scholarships (Seattle office, Portland office, New York City office). Paid summer associate position and $7,500 for student’s second-year tuition and expenses.

Qualifications
1L diverse students with record of academic achievement in both undergraduate school and the first year of law school; committed to civic involvement that promotes diversity and will continue that commitment upon entering the legal profession; and committed to practicing in the Pacific Northwest after law school (For the Seattle and Portland offices only).

Donald W. Banner Diversity Scholarship

Award
$5,000

Qualifications

  • Academic merit (undergraduate, graduate and law school)
  • Commitment to the pursuit of a career in IP law
  • Member of a historically underrepresented group in IP law
  • Written communication skills
  • Oral communication skills determined through an interview
  • Leadership qualities and community involvement

Friedl Richardson Disabled Students Pursuing a Career in Law Scholarship

Award
We are proud to support students with disabilities by offering a $1,000 scholarship specifically for disabled students pursuing a law career. This scholarship can be applied to any institution of your choice, and will provide an extra boost for students with disabilities who are preparing to transition into academics, and eventually into a career in law.

Qualifications

  • High School GPA – 2.8
  • Must provide proof of disability
  • U.S. citizen
  • Must be enrolled school for the fall semester

Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP Diversity Scholarship


Description
$15,000 award and a paid 2016 summer position in one of the firm’s domestic offices.  Scholarship may be renewed if an offer is extended and accepted for the full 2017 summer associate program.

Qualifications
Enrolled in an ABA-accredited law school in the JD class of 2018; degree in life sciences/chemistry, engineering, or computer science, or substantial prior trademark experience; and must contribute to enhancing diversity.

Harter Secrest & Emery LLP 2016 Diversity Scholarship


Description
Two scholarships:  $7500 to be applied to the student’s second- year tuition and paid, 10-week summer associate position between the student’s first and second year of law school.

Qualifications
Full-time, currently enrolled 1L law student in good standing at an accredited law school, academic record, interest and capacity that evidence great promise for a successful career during the remainder of law school and in the legal profession, and must contribute to the diversity of the student body at his or her law school.

Award

Insler & Hermann Disabled Law Student Scholarship    

Award: 1,000

Qualifications
Every year the Social Security disability law firm of Insler Hermann offers a $1,000 scholarship to a disabled law student.

Milbank Diversity Scholars Program

Award
Salaried summer associate positions; $50,000 scholarship to up to two more students each year.

 

Qualifications
Candidates must be in good standing at an ABA accredited law school and have successfully completed their first year of a full-time JD program. Students who are members of traditionally underrepresented groups in large law firms are encouraged to apply.

National Federation of the Blind
2015 Scholarship Program

Award
30 scholarships that range in value from $3,000 up to $12,000, and include a trip to Orlando this July for the world’s largest convention for the blind.

Qualifications
All applicants for these scholarships:

  1. must be legally blind (PDF document) in both eyes, and
  2. must be residing in the United States, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico, and
  3. must be pursuing or planning to pursue a full-time, postsecondary course of study in a degree program at a United States institution in the 2015 scholastic year, except that one scholarship may be given to a person employed full-time while attending school part-time, and
  4. must participate in the entire NFB national convention and in all of its scheduled scholarship program activities

WardGreenberg 2016 Diversity Scholarship Program

Description
10-week paid summer position at Rochester, New York office and $7,500 scholarship to be paid toward the winner’s law school tuition. Opportunity to work with teams at more than one of Ward Greenberg’s offices and considered for a 2017 summer associate position with additional $10,000 scholarship.

Qualifications
1L student at an ABA-accredited law school with demonstrated academic and leadership achievements, and a desire to practice at a sophisticated litigation firm and contribute to its diversity objectives.

Law Student Writing Competitions

 

Jameson Crane III Disability and the Law Writing Competition

Award
The Crane Writing Competition is designed to encourage outstanding student scholarship at the intersection of law and medicine or law and the social sciences that promotes an understanding, furthers the development of legal rights and protections, and improves the lives of those with disabilities.

  1. The winner of the competition will receive a $1,500 cash prize and the Thomas Jefferson Law Review (TJLR) will consider the paper for publication under the TJLR’s editorial standards.
  2. Two second place winners will each receive a $1,000 cash prize.

Qualifications
The Crane Writing Competition is open to currently enrolled law students (J.D., LL.M., and J.S.D.), medical students, and doctoral candidates in related fields who attend an accredited graduate program of study in the United States.
