The College of Law is home to the Glenn M. Weaver Institute of Law and Psychiatry, which provides opportunities for students and legal professionals to learn about mental health law and to enhance the professional skills needed when psychiatric issues arise in criminal and civil cases, correctional administration and legislation. Through classroom instruction, educational symposia, and public lectures, the Weaver Institute teaches students and legal practitioners about the many contexts in which the law uses information from the fields of psychiatry and psychology. The Weaver Institute also furthers scholarship and learning in forensic psychiatry, and encourages attorneys to develop the interests, skills, and talents needed to deal successfully with psychiatric evidence presented in court.
