While Maine Law does not have a clinical course specifically dedicated to disability law, students enrolled in clinical courses offered through the Cumberland Legal Aid Clinic (General Practice Clinic, Prisoner Assistance Clinic, and Juvenile Justice Clinic) do provide legal representation to a significant number of clients with disabilities on both disability (e.g., Social Security, special education, access to treatment) and non-disability (e.g., family law, criminal law, domestic violence) legal matters. Training students to work effectively with clients with disabilities is a key component of our clinical education program.
Maine Law offers a Disability Law Seminar, which generally focuses on issues pertaining to Law and Mental Disability. Please contact Associate Professor Deirdre M. Smith with any questions about the seminar or clinical offerings.
