This year, The Collaborative Bar Leadership Academy (CBLA) celebrated its 10 year anniversary!
The Collaborative Bar Leadership Academy (CBLA) is a joint initiative between the American Bar Association, its Commissions on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession and Disability Rights, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the National LGBT Bar Association, the National Native American Bar Association, and the South Asian Bar Association of North America.
Founded in 2013, CBLA is a coordinated effort to strengthen the pipeline of diverse bar association leaders by providing leadership training and professional development programs, which benefit current and future leaders of bar associations and the legal profession.
This year’s CBLA was held from June 25-27, 2023, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. New bar leaders and CBLA alumni attended several programs spotlighting diverse and immersive programming. Including learning the nuts and bolts of leading a bar association, the keys to good governance, how to build consensus, tips for effective advocacy and communication, and how to advance a vision. Attendees learned from one another and notable bar leaders alike. Perhaps the most magical aspect of CBLA was that attendees were immersed in constant fellowship and empowered to collaborate, exchange ideas and best practices, and encouraged to stay in touch!
