About the Speakers

Michel McIlwrath is the Vice President - Global Litigation for Baker Hughes, a world leading supplier of equipment and services in the energy industries. He is based at the company’s offices at Nuovo Pignone, in Florence, Italy. He is co-author of International Arbitration and Mediation:  A Practical Guide (Kluwer Law International 2010), a regular contributor to the Kluwer Arbitration Blog, and teaches Legal Writing at Bocconi Law School in Milan. Michael is the chair of the ICC Governing Body for Dispute Resolution Services, a member of the board of directors and past chairman of the International Mediation Institute, and was chair of the Global Pound Conference in 2016-17 (http://globalpound.org/). In 2017, Arbitral Women recognized his as a Champion of Change for promoting diversity in international arbitration.

Mireze Philippe is a Special Counsel at the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce and a recipient of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR) 2018 Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Diversity in ADR. Ms Philippe is a founding co-president of ArbitralWomen, an international non-governmental organization with the primary objective of advancing the interests of women and promoting female practitioners in international dispute resolution. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge and a member of the Board of Advisors of Arbitrator Intelligence. The Award acknowledges Ms. Philippe’s dedicated efforts to bring diversity to the foreground that date back over two decades to an era when debate and awareness around such issues was not commonplace. She is based in Paris, France.

Prof. Dr. Mohamed S. Abdel Wahab is the Chair of Private International Law and Professor of International Arbitration (Cairo University); Vice-President, ICC International Court of Arbitration; Member of the ICCA Governing Board; Vice-Chair, ISDS Academic Forum; Member of the MIAC Advisory Board; Vice-Chair, IBA Arab Regional Forum; CIMAC Court Member; Member of the CRCICA Advisory Committee; Member of the CIArb’s Board of Trustees; Dean of Africa Arbitration Academy; Member of the ICODR’s Governing Board. He has served as ‘Arbitrator’, ‘Counsel’ and ‘Legal Expert’ in more than 190 cases involving African, Asian, Canadian, European, Middle Eastern and US parties. He is one of I-ARB AFRICA’s 100 leading African practitioners, was selected as African Personality by Africa Arbitration (2018), and by the LACIAC in 2019. He is the LAW Magazine 2017 Best Legal Practitioner Award, the 2018 ASA International Arbitration Advocacy Prize, the 2019 AYA Hall-of-Fame African Arbitrator Award and the 2020 Client Choice International Award
