Message from the Arbitration Committee Chairs

Happy Spring! We hope that this message finds you all healthy, safe, and, if you’re fortunate, perhaps with a sore arm as vaccines roll out. We’re ready to start seeing you again soon!

As we adapt to pandemic change, one of our success stories is this year’s Annual Arbitration Institute.  It will be held virtually on June 14, 16, 18, 21, 23, and 25. There has already been record registration this year and the Institute has reached capacity. A waitlist is available if you want to have a chance to attend.

It’s been a busy and successful year for the Arbitration Committee and hope to continue that trend. We welcome any interest in contributing to the committee, whether by publishing articles, like the many fine articles in this edition of our Newsletter, or by organizing programs. Just contact either of us and we would be very happy to discuss.

The Use of Emergency Arbitration for Cases Involving Corruption In Public Procurement

Some States occasionally decide to subscribe public contracts with private entities, which can offer a necessary service for the society. Frequently, these contracts are for services that the State cannot afford at the time due to their high costs. The size of these transactions and the close interactions between the public officials and private businesses can cause public procurement to suffer from corruption.
