The ABA recognizes the second Thursday of October as Ombuds Day to highlight the ombuds profession. The goals of Ombuds Day are to improve public awareness of ombuds, to connect ombuds in their respective communities, and to encourage greater use of ombuds programs and services.

2024 Ombuds Day

The 2024 theme is “Ombuds: Here to Hear You,” one that will be celebrated on Thursday, October 10 by ombuds, the organizations they provide services to, and ombuds membership groups across the world.

This year, the ABA Ombuds Day Subcommittee is excited to host an event titled, “Exploring the AI Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities for Ombuds.” This engaging and wide-ranging discussion will include perspectives from different ombuds sectors and will center around the impact that artificial intelligence will have on the future of the ombuds profession. With the help of a facilitator, reactors representing various approaches to ombudsing will engage in thoughtful discussion regarding the challenges and opportunities that AI will present for our work. We hope that this conversation will help our profession to think differently, challenge assumptions, and identify areas for growth and change that new technologies will present. Registration is available at ambar.org/OmbudsDay2024, and more information about some of the other efforts and initiatives sponsored by the ABA Ombuds Day Subcommittee is available at abaombudsday.wordpress.com.
