      Awards

      D’Alemberte-Raven Award

      The Section’s D’Alemberte-Raven Award is the Section’s highest honor and was created to recognize outstanding service in dispute resolution

      The John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver Award

      This award is given to an individual member of the legal profession and/or institution who has exhibited extraordinary skill in either promoting the concept of the lawyer as problem-solver or resolving individual, institutional, community, state, national, or international problems.

      The Civility Award

      The Civility Award recognizes lawyers who have taken meaningful steps to promote a more civil public discourse and who epitomize the highest professional standards of civility.

      Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work

      The ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work honors individuals whose scholarship has significantly contributed to the dispute resolution field.

      Frank E.A. Sander Innovation In ADR Award

      Named for the father of Alternative Dispute Resolution and long-time Harvard Law School professor Frank Sander, the Frank E.A. Sander Innovation in ADR Award was established to recognize innovative methods and extraordinary achievements in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. The award will be presented at a ceremony at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

      Competitions

      Law Student National Representation in Mediation Competition

      This competition is designed to acquaint the law student participants with advocacy skills in alternative dispute resolution processes, specifically mediation.

      The James Boskey ADR Writing Competition

      The James Boskey ADR Writing Competition is named in memory of James B. Boskey, an intellectual, humanitarian, Seton Hall University law professor, and mediator. The purpose of the competition is to create greater interest in the field of dispute resolution among all law students of the nation, particularly the Law Student Division of the American Bar Association.
