The economic downturn spurred by COVID-19 exacerbates this situation by forcing marginally employed renters from their homes and into dangerous living situations – over-crowded shelters or the streets. Many face unique legal challenges as they seek refuge.

In the last month, the Commission has trained over 1,000 lawyers on protection orders, virtual litigation and gun violence issues. It provides resources to lawyers and survivors now and as more people seek safety outside their homes.
