Over 10,000 volunteer attorneys stand ready to assist with employment, housing, family, consumer rights, and other civil legal matters.

Most children reunify with family, while others need legal assistance to navigate the complex child welfare system. The ABA Center for Children and the Law works tirelessly on legal advocacy and court improvements that reduce the need for and shorten the time spent in foster care. The Center develops legal solutions on a variety of topics that improve the outcomes for children and families.

The ABA Young Lawyers Division, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, recruits and trains volunteer attorneys to operate a free legal services hotline in the aftermath of presidentially-declared disasters. For nearly 50 years, the ABA has helped disaster survivors rebuild their lives through access to legal services.
