Fifth Annual Artificial Intelligence and Robotics National Institute

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing everything everywhere all at once in ways that lawyers cannot afford to ignore. With the public launch of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, AI took a significant leap forward. AI isn’t just analyzing data but also learning from it and generating original content … transforming industries and the way we do almost everything, including practicing law. Daily news headlines report that ChatGPT, GPT-4, Bard, and other forms of generative AI are accelerating this rapid change at an even greater and unprecedented velocity. AI is no longer just a force for automation, pattern recognition, and prediction, but also for creating new content (writing, thinking, media, art, designs, computer code, and other things humans once created). It’s also a force sometimes for new realities: deepfakes, fraud, and information security attacks; novel legal issues (e.g., intellectual property, data protection, employment, contracting); and ethical implications of using generative AI in the practice of law. The ABA’s fifth annual AI and Robotics National Institute will bring together law firms, government, and in-house attorneys as well as business leaders to cover these and other hot topics (including drones!) in AI and robotics law and policy while providing practical guidance and tools for practicing law and managing risk in the era of generative AI.
