Conversation with Dr. Darrick Hamilton

Darrick Hamilton and Juan R. Thomas

Dr. Darrick Hamilton and Section Chair Juan Thomas engage in a vibrant discussion of Dr. Hamilton’s vision for a more inclusion and just economy that acknowledges and accounts for as well as corrects historic and current civil wrongs and social injustices including racial, gender, religious, and sexual identity discrimination. Dr. Hamilton’s Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy and his work on the U.S. Treasury Advisory Committee on Racial Equity advance his philosophy that inequalities formed over centuries cannot be undone with small ideas. Dr. Hamilton explains that rigorous research giving rise to transformational ideas and policies can be implemented by community and business leaders and policymakers to address structural problems.

This panel was a part of CRSJ’s hybrid Economic Justice Summit — held on March 30-31, 2023 — the Section held its Economic Justice Summit at the Georgetown University Law Center. Continuing with CRSJ’s 22-23 Bar Year theme of economic justice, this two-day Summit convened lawyers, activists, policymakers, and key stakeholders to formulate policy solutions to our country’s most critical economic disparities and devise strategies to implement such policy solutions.
