How Do We Serve Our Clients During the COVID Crisis? | ON-DEMAND

As the country adjusts to the new normal presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, workers living with HIV and other immune system complications are facing additional challenges and new avenues of discrimination. This webinar features the 2020 recipients of the Alexander D. Forger Awards, who are nationally recognized for their sustained commitment to providing direct legal services to individuals affected by HIV. They discussed the forms of discrimination that may arise in employment, compensation, and healthcare, as well as highlight the resources and legal remedies that attorneys, advocates, and direct service providers can utilize to protect the rights of those living with HIV.

Managing Privacy and Compliance with Public Health Guidelines During the Pandemic | ON-DEMAND

The second installment of the HIV/AIDS Webinar Series included a discussion of emerging privacy and confidentiality challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, including contact tracing, data collection via mobile devices and apps, and criminal sanctions for public health violations. Speakers drew from lessons learned from HIV and hepatitis, including perspectives on balancing public health priorities and response with patient privacy.

The Intersection of Immigration, Asylum and HIV | ON-DEMAND

Immigration and Asylum are fields of law that have seen negative changes for clients over the past few years. When immigration and asylum clients are living with HIV, they can face additional barriers and live with additional fears in addressing immigration hurdles. Often the clients living with HIV encounter bias against them due to their health status as well as their immigrant status. On October 7, practitioners discussed their experiences working with immigrant clients living with HIV. Included in the discussion was recent changes to immigration regulations and legal responses to these changes.

Celebrating World AIDS Day: A Roundtable Discussion of Current and Emerging Legal and Policy Issues | ON-DEMAND

As the 40th anniversary of the first AIDS cases in the US approaches next year (June 2021), HIV lawyers and policy advocates discussed the progress achieved in protecting the rights of people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, where those rights may be threatened today, and how best to secure them for the future.
