About the Policy Implementation Initiative

Mission Statement and Goals

The mission of the Section of Civil Rights and Social Justice's Policy Implementation Initiative is to support the advocacy of the Section's leadership in support of adoption of civil rights and social justice policy and legislation at the federal, tribal, territorial, state and local levels.

To accomplish its mission of supporting efforts to advocate for laws and policies supportive of civil rights and social justice, the Policy Implementation Committee has adopted the following seven goals for this initiative:

  1. To develop a robust policy advocacy program, leveraging the civil rights and social justice policies that the ABA has adopted.
  2. To serve as a conduit between the 21 ABA CRSJ members including its Committees, Council, and Executive Team and the ABA Government Affairs Office.
  3. To strengthen the relationships between ABA CRSJ members and policymakers at the federal, state, territorial, tribal, and local levels to address civil rights and social justice issues.
  4. To advocate for ABA policies that promote civil rights and social justice laws and policies at the federal, territorial, tribal, state and local levels.
  5. To improve understanding of processes of the development and impact of civil rights and social justice laws and issues.
  6. To continue to educate the public about the need for civil rights and social justice laws and policies.
  7. To increase the diversity and participation of our membership and leverage their skill sets to promote ABA policies on civil rights and social justice laws and issues at the federal, territorial, tribal, state and local levels.
