Section Honors former Chair’s Leadership and Commitment

On Feb. 14, during a reception honored by Arnold and Porter. Rob Weiner received the Section's Father Drinan Award, which recognizes individuals whose sustained and extraordinary commitment has advanced the Section's mission of providing leadership to the legal profession in protecting and advancing human rights, civil liberties, and social justice. Rob Weiner epitomizes this commitment and leadership. ABA President Judy Perry Martinez and President-Elect Trish Refo spoke about Rob’s immense contributions before Section Chair Wendy Mariner presented the award. “Rob has instilled the Section’s principles and values in all [his] endeavors. He is truly an ambassador for the Section’s mission.”

This interactive booth highlighted ABA election-related resources for meeting attendees to utilize during the 2020 election cycle. The booth - which was located directly next to ABA registration - was wildly popular and received much acclaim from the meeting attendees.

Defending Liberty, Pursuing Justice Summit

Designed to engage and mobilize the legal profession on critical justice issues, the summit began with a rousing keynote address by Austin Mayor Steve Adler focusing on the critical role of lawyers and the legal community in addressing complex societal issues like homelessness through bipartisan discourse grounded in law and policy advocacy. Following the Mayor’s remarks, Judge Ernestine Gray spoke about the role of the ABA in defending liberty and pursuing justice and how she has leveraged her involvement in ABA activities and service on many boards and committees to further her lifelong commitment to improving the lives of children and families.
